When a dragon crash-lands in a small, sandy shore, the lives of its residents are forever changed. At first, no one seems to believe Ailsa when she claims that she has seen the dragon on a clear night. But then, almost as if wanting to be discovered, the beast decides to invade the games that the townsfolk are busy playing, barking, "Gawf! Gawf!". This "Gawf" later on becomes golf.
The story takes an interesting turn on a day when the northern lights illuminate the sky. What gives way to the creation of the building "Royal and Ancient" and what secrets lie buried deep in its basement? What mysterious legacy does the dragon leave behind for the townsfolk?
