Annie Oliver always knew she was adopted. But knowing she was adopted was never the same as knowing who she was.

Born in the 1970s and separated from her birth family as a baby, Annie spent decades searching for the missing pieces of her story. From faded records and old phone books to DNA matches and unexpected discoveries, her journey would lead her through moments of hope, heartbreak, joy and loss as she sought answers to questions that had followed her all her life.

Honest, moving and often unexpectedly humorous, An Adoption Story explores identity, belonging and the lifelong impact of adoption on everyone involved.

This deeply personal memoir is a story for adoptees, birth families and adoptive families alike, and for anyone who has ever wondered where they truly belong.

Annie Oliver

An adoptee of the 1970s, Annie Oliver had always known she was adopted and, for as long as she could remember, had felt a deep need to discover who her birth parents were. She lives in Derbyshire with her husband, two children, and many pets. This is her first piece of writing, which she felt compelled to create after the deaths of both her adoptive parents over the last decade, finally allowing herself to stop hiding her emotions and her journey. Annie writes in the hope that others may identify with her story and find solace in it, and that those who are still searching may find hope.
