Island Days is a hilarious and heartwarming true adventure that follows Jim and Elspeth Aitken, a quirky Scottish couple who trade their mundane lives for an unforgettable journey to the remote island of St. Helena. When Jim, a microbiologist with a penchant for Star Trek and accidental phone pranks, lands an interview with the Overseas Development Agency, chaos ensues - starting with a disastrous first impression that nearly sinks his chances. Against all odds, he and Elspeth, a sharp-witted maths teacher, embark on a whirlwind of bureaucratic hurdles, family goodbyes, and a comically disastrous farewell party before setting off on an epic voyage via Cape Town. From navigating apartheid-era South Africa to surviving a rickety ship crossing the South Atlantic, their misadventures are as unpredictable as they are entertaining. Full of wit, charm, and the thrill of the unknown, Island Days is a delightful story about taking leaps, embracing the absurd, and discovering life's greatest adventures in the most unlikely places.
