Peter Fieldman was born in London in 1943 and educated at grammar school. After a spell in advertising and public relations, at twenty, he left to work in a factory in the Dordogne to perfect his French and then spent a year travelling around the USA, a journey which began on 22 November 1963. On his return, he found himself more suited to the expanding real estate sector, undertaking commercial and residential developments both in the UK and Europe. He met his Italian wife while based in Paris in 1968, and they moved permanently to France in 1987, where he took up writing.
