Ancient traditions clash with modern ways.
Unexpected beginnings rise from confusion and despair.

RISING SUN FALLING RAIN is a story of love, loss, secrets and hope - across generations and cultures.

New Zealand serviceman Mick Mitchell approaches the postwar devastation of Hiroshima, Japan with compassion, Kiwi ingenuity and the determination to make a difference.

Eighteen-year-old Emiko Tanazawa renounces her father's control to avoid an arranged marriage.

Mick and Emiko fall in love and furtively marry ¬- but dreams are not enough.

Twenty years later their daughter sets out to unlock the mysteries of her past.

It is precisely the uncertainty of this world that makes life worth living
