The Car Behind You is an Audi
An unexpected meeting with a petty criminal sees a former criminal lawyer pursued after thirty years when he had successfully defended Rod. When he hears the charges against Rod, he agrees to get back in the circuit and assist him to defend his name, and with the local registrar on his side he couldn't lose.
Downhill All the Way
Jack was new to the West Country, coming from a rather posh firm in the home counties, but within months he was settled in a company as their new lawyer, with the brief ‘to cover all the litigation in the firm'. That meant going into the magistrates' court to defend clients, to the county court for civil hearings and in particular divorce, as well as tackling claims for damages usually following accidents. So he was to be Jack of all trades.
Jack soon learnt the ropes and who the local troublemakers were and was seen as very successful in defending their cases. This is a sometimes hilarious account of day to day life in court rooms and the rise and fall of the legal aid system.
Back Numbers
After emigrating to Australia many years before, the time had now come to return to England and resume where he had left off. But a visit to his old company found a lot had changed in the intervening years and when he heard the story of the disasters that had beset the company, including three accidents, two of them fatal and one left with a serious disability, it was time to pursue the cause and find a link between the three of them and why this hadn't been investigated.
After delving into the facts surrounding the cases a name was finally linked to all three and successfully prosecuted.
The Rain Tests
Is it a result of global warming or just bad luck?
The English summer has always been unpredictable and very often wet, but with a forecast of rain throughout the coming summer, something drastic had to be done to stop it being a complete disaster. So when the aged-old rules of the game of cricket needed to be changed and special sophisticated rainwear clothing produced for the forthcoming test series between England and New Zealand to stop it being a ‘wash out', the game took on a different meaning for players and followers alike.
A light-hearted futuristic must read for cricket fans, who will totally understand the disappointment and frustration of the usual announcement ‘rain stopped play'.
