Set during the tumultuous period of the Hundred Years' War, The Bloody Siege, 1417 by Geoffrey Davies is a riveting historical novel that brings to life the brutal realities of medieval warfare. England, under the reign of King Henry V, is embroiled in a relentless campaign against France. The story weaves together the experiences of knights, archers, and nobility as they navigate the treacherous terrain of both the battlefield and political intrigue.

Through vividly detailed characters like Gruffyd Kynaston and Erik of Hordley, the reader is drawn into the world of siege warfare, honor, betrayal, and survival. As armies clash and cities fall, the book explores themes of loyalty and ambition, highlighting the personal sacrifices made in pursuit of victory. Filled with gripping battles and heart-wrenching moments of loss, The Bloody Siege, 1417 offers a compelling look at a pivotal moment in European history, where the fate of nations hang in the balance.

This book is a product of lockdown. In December 2019, Geoffrey Davies had just retired from general practice in Shropshire – then along came the pandemic. He returned to help the NHS, but whilst waiting for reaccreditation, he and Charlotte joined https://www.ancestry.com/ and researched his family tree and DNA. He was surprised to learn that many of his ancestors had lived in Shropshire and traced the line to Gruffyd Kynaston, who is in this book. He also traced his ancestry to the wonderfully named Antigone Plantagenet, whose grandfather was King Henry IV (Gramps); hence, the idea of this book was born. Most people have heard of Agincourt – but what happened afterwards?

This book chronicles the early reign of King Henry V (Uncle Henry) and his invasion of France.
