Allan and Josh are two teenagers about to enter the world of work but just before they do, Allan has a plan that will send them on their way to become men: the Big One! From the extensively knowledgeable David Walford, in his fifth publication we are taken on a backpacking journey from coast-to-coast through the Scottish mountain wilderness. Through the many trials, mishaps and scrapes, no moment is left alone, the gritty harshness of backpacking in the wild is laid out for all to see. With nothing but what they can carry, the determined Allan and the less-than-enthused Josh must battle terrain, weather, physical and mental strain, and often each other! In meticulous detail, drawn from the author's own experiences and enormous love for the Scottish mountains, join the two lads on their quest into manhood. A life-affirming coming-of-age story that will inspire you to take a few weeks out of your own schedule to find yourself again in nature! Packed with humour, drama and suspense to the end.

David Walford

David Walford is an East Yorkshire based author with a passion for walking and mountaineering, along with great interest in the outdoors, environment, railway history and photography. He has written several books on walking and local history in Yorkshire, but this title calls on his extensive knowledge of backpacking in the wild and his great love of the Scottish mountains. He expertly relives many of his treks with extensive detail and humour. He also recalls his many mishaps and scrapes, as he learnt his skills to survive safely on the mountain tops.
