Set against the electrifying backdrop of the 1936 Berlin Olympics, At the end of the day weaves a gripping tale of ambition, love, and the shadows of history. Harriet Tippins, Britain's star sprinter, is determined to claim Olympic gold, but the oppressive atmosphere of Nazi Germany and the weight of personal expectations threaten to unravel her focus. As she navigates the pressures of competition, Harriet must also confront the complexities of her relationship with Godfrey, her childhood sweetheart, and the allure of a burgeoning Hollywood career. Meanwhile, her father, Sir James Tippins, a dedicated MP and war veteran, faces his own battles as a potential health crisis and a looming constitutional scandal involving King Edward VIII threaten to upend his life. With richly drawn characters and a vivid historical setting, At the end of the day is a compelling exploration of resilience, identity and the choices that define us in the face of extraordinary times.
