This collection of poems is in the form of a diary charting a year of grief and bereavement, following the sudden premature death of the poet's husband. It tackles the sad subjects of coming to terms with grief, loss and widowhood, and of understanding and accepting her new identity and changed situation. The poems address a diverse range of related topics, with the occasional splash of humour, and shows how she changed through the year. Despite the subject matter, this poignant and honest book manages to be uplifting and optimistic but would also give comfort to those who are themselves grieving. Since the first anniversary of his death (which is when this collection ends) the author has continued to write a poetic record of her day-to-day life.

Teri started writing poetry at the age of ten. At seventeen she adopted the nom-de-plume of Teri O'Neal. She was an active writer and performer of her work through to her early thirties, at which point she met her husband and life-partner, and, for various reasons, virtually stopped writing. However, she always knew that it was still there and she would go back to it if he was no longer in her life. He died suddenly of a heart attack, their having been together for over forty years. Twelve days later she started writing again and continues to do so. Professionally, she worked as a corporate treasurer for over thirty years. She is also an artist (as Teri Walsh), working primarily in the medium of screen printing.
