Publius was the pen name used by James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay in The Federalist Papers. The name Publius was chosen because Publius Valerius was one of the founders of the Roman Republic. Since Madison, Hamilton, Jay and others were founding a new republic and NOT a democracy here in the United States, they used the name of the founder of the Roman Republic to promote the Constitutional Republic they gave us. This historical fact is the reason I chose the pen name Madame Publius to educate my readers about the Constitutional Republic created by the U.S. Constitution.
