Hillingstone is a modest country estate, slightly faded and in need of a revitalised future. But with a free-spirited, troubled elder son, and two other children who want no part of its care, where will the aging owners turn?
Their dysfunctional family begins to unravel when the heir plants an outsider into their midst, with explosive consequences. Can the family come together to rescue the estate, or will their infighting leave them blind to the underhand activities of the estate manager?
Their lives will change forever over an eighteen-month period. Who will be left standing when the dust settles?

Richard Gadsby was born in Kent but spent most of his childhood and
working life in East Anglia. Frequent visits back to the rolling landscape
and country houses of his home county acted as an inspiration for this novel.
Family visits to Lincolnshire provided further ideas for locations that have
been imagined into the story. He now lives in the province of Cadiz in
southern Spain, where the traditional hilltop towns and villages inspired the
scenes that are set in a typical Andalusian white-washed town.
