About Book

A wonderfully evocative tale of coming of age in Northern Italy. Set in the beautiful countryside of Liguria, the author Max Capponi describes in loving and often hair-raising detail his youth and childhood in this magical land. Along with other members of his gang, Max lives an adventure-filled life worthy of Huckleberry Finn. No-one is safe from their pranks and escapades, which more than once bring them to the attention of the Carabinieri, and many an outraged villager. They travel far and wide on bikes and go-karts, and later on mopeds as well as driving beat up cars on dangerous mountain tracks. Naturally, girls feature more prominently in these latter years, and they successfully woo a whole class load of Irish girls one romance-packed summer. Max doesn't just tell us stories. He also gives us many insights into life and art, especially popular music and cinema which are two of his great passions.
