Io and Brown are the last of the Drifters- a segregated group of beings condemned to be exiled as a part of New York's efficient waste protocol on a massive trash mound called the Black Oasis on the Atlantic Ocean. The last of their kind, the two struggle to maintain their livelihood while fighting against the elements, eluding the imminent disintegration of the island, and escaping the Floaters of Elysium- a mysterious group of nocturnal beings who will stop at nothing to strip the two of their energy for their own ultimate survival.
Io and Brown could not be further from one another in their make, model, skills, and perspectives, but in the darkness of the Black Oasis and in the light of Elysium, the two must learn through love and vulnerability what it takes to survive, and what it really means to feel alive.
