After the death of his wife, Georgie, his soul mate, Michael finds himself adrift. Whilst wrestling with his grief he suffers a heart attack which forces him to give up his other passion, his work as a headteacher. His colleague and best friend, James, takes over his position as headteacher at the Devon secondary school and Michael must find some new purpose.
He decides to follow the dream that he and Georgie had of buying an apartment in the unspoilt and idyllic ski resort of Pra Loup in the southern French Alps. He begins a new life, finds a new love and revels in the delights of sunshine and snow in the mountains.
But memories of his old life linger, deception and betrayal hang in the air. The mountain's natural beauty also hide dangers and one thing is clear, Michael will not be able to leave the Haute Provence unchanged.
