Laid Bare is the story of a young woman's attempts to come to terms, gradually, with a problem which, at first, she finds it hard to admit to: a tendency to seek out ‘toxic' relationships. In a memoir which is full of incident - sometimes touching, sometimes funny, sometimes, even, shocking - she traces the steps by which she comes to face up to this dynamic underlying her life. A childhood not without difficulties and real pain leads on to a young womanhood in which there are plenty of unsuitable partners, a brief episode as a ‘sugar baby', and, finally, a lastingly meaningful encounter with the elusive ideal - the charming, handsome, and apparently unattainable ‘Mr. French'. After struggles with drink and gambling, can our young heroine overcome her initial resistance to therapeutic help, and arrive at a place where she can face tomorrow with courage?
