Martin Vine

A fantasy-fiction tragic since childhood, Martin Vine began penning the Waking World trilogy as a personal challenge based on a long-held philosophy - that all people are inherently creative. This simple idea seeded an important question: like the cicada nymph buried dormant below ground, what if our creative potential awaits only the correct alignment of time and circumstance to emerge into light of day? Working around the concept of awakening, the author laid the foundation for the story as it evolved into Book I: Hopskotch and the Golden Cicada.

Martin currently works as a Senior Graphic Designer for an in-house design studio providing marketing services for a global health care company and enjoys the quiet life with family - two-legs and four - in Sydney's leafy northern suburbs.

About Book

A world drained of colour.
A people robbed of hope.
A child with the power to unlock the gift of a fallen god.

When an unexpected arrival gatecrashes the opening ceremony of Broken Meadow's annual cicada hunt, teammates Hopskotch and Dobbin are detoured wildly off course, forced to navigate Bridgetown's patrolled labyrinth of laneways on the tail of an eccentric grandfather with a stolen map.

Tracked by eyes unseen, played like marionettes upon a string, the luckless Syltlings cross the highland lake to gorge country where they become swept up in an adventure more perilous than they ever imagined. A grim shadow blights the forgotten forest. Strangers appear to forge a path onward. Enemies are closing in with ruthless resolve.

But our hero is not helpless. The Absent God Aethelron has abandoned the world of Sylt, but in surviving bloodlines flows an ancient gift. At the heart of the mystery lies the legendary golden cicada, but the clock is ticking on Broken Meadow's fading memories. Will Hopskotch awaken the magic in time?
