Forbidden Love by Joanne Gregorec is a tale of love and great friendship through adversity during the hardships of war.
Daisy Peters is a working-class girl from Luton in Bedfordshire who has struggled to gain her school qualifications; her parents have sacrificed much to help their daughter realise her dreams.
On the other hand, Lizzie (Lady Elizabeth) Fenton has had no such struggles. Boarding school educated and stinking rich, she is looking to escape her oppressive mother, who has arranged for her to marry Charles.
On the first day of September in 1939, the day Britain declares war on Germany, these two girls find themselves sharing a room at The London Hospital in Whitechapel.
An improbable friendship begins!
They were excited... they were embarking on a career in nursing... little did these two resilient young women realise the dramas and hardships they would endure over the next few years...

I trained as a nurse in the eighties, having to give up due to a family member being terminally ill. I returned to nursing as a health care assistant for six years. I then left to work for the family business and retrained in book keeping. I had to stop work because I became seriously ill. I still have ill health and found writing a means of escapism. I love reading and the fulfilment it brings me. I hope this book brings much joy to whoever reads it. I now work for the NHS as admin assistant for Discharge Planning. I have a very supportive husband of thirty-one years, and one son. We live in Bedfordshire.
