Shehroze is a talented artist, yet he has decided to follow his father into law, a safer option his mother disapproves of. Although he has conformed, he is left with an internal restlessness and an abiding lack of joy. This drives him to wander around late at night, seeking who knows what.
On one such night, he sits on a park bench smoking, when a mysterious young woman, Nayra, appears. She teases him and cadges a cigarette off him and as they talk, he quickly becomes fascinated with her. She is mysterious, beautiful, profound, and widely knowledgeable.
The stars seem to have fated the two for each other. But the fates are also capricious and the two separate for more than three years before unexpectedly meeting again in the UK.
The years have changed both, though. Shehroze has become robotic, and Nayra somehow has something missing from her soul.
Once they marry and their daughter is born, everything changes for the better, or so Shehroze thinks. Meanwhile, the secret Nayra is keeping begins to consume her.
