Falling Upwards invites readers on a reflective journey through life's myriad moments. From the unbridled joy of a child swinging high into the sky to the darkness of suffering, this collection captures the beauty of fleeting instants and the enduring rhythms that shape us. The poems traverse landscapes both external and internal - wild estuaries, vibrant gardens and the depths of memory - while meditating on growth, resilience and the passage of time. Exploring themes of being alone, being part of a family, a community and the wider world. With a touch of nostalgia and a voice that celebrates the ordinary as extraordinary, Falling Upwards reveals the universal cycles of loss and renewal, the harmony in nature's chaos and the quiet wisdom in everyday life.

Clare Smith grew up in Northern Ireland during The Troubles, a child of English Quakers who moved there just after she was born. She moved back to England at eighteen and became an award-winning health journalist with the BBC before turning to lecturing in journalism. With her husband, she raised two children. She was diagnosed autistic at fifty-seven - a revelation that forced her to re-examine her life. By then, she had moved with her husband to rural Norfolk and switched to volunteering. Her first poetry anthology, Outside Looking In, was published in 2022.
