Set against the rolling countryside of Scotland and Ireland during times of social change and war, Borderline is a moving story of love, loyalty, and belonging. When lives from different cultures and backgrounds become entwined, old beliefs are challenged, and hidden tensions rise to the surface.
At the heart of the novel are families bound by friendship, loss, and resilience, struggling to find their place in a world shaped by tradition, faith, and conflict. From grand estates and quiet villages to moments of deep personal reckoning, the story follows characters whose choices echo across generations.
With warmth, compassion, and a strong sense of place, Lorna Uglow explores how trust is built, how prejudice wounds, and how hope can endure even in the darkest times. Borderline is a powerful and emotionally rich novel about crossing boundaries—both visible and unseen.

Lorna lives in rural Essex and is married with two sons and two stepsons. Having worked in a private hospital for twenty-five years, she now spends her time writing and sailing and has published four children's books. Lorna is also a great animal lover. This book was inspired by bed-time stories told to Lorna by her grandmother, Beanie, who was brought up on Milldown Farm on the Scottish Borders.
