It had been a great training session. Both Sammy and Dino had secured their places in the University’s team for the big match on Saturday. Now it was time to head home for a hot dinner of Mama’s cornmeal pie and a lovely long soak to tease out those painful aches. The lads were hungry. The lads were tired. They decided to save some time by taking a shortcut back. It took them through the wrong end of town. Through the neglected, derelict end of town. That was their first mistake. As they walked through, a battered and ragged mouse ran into them. But instead of begging for help, he told them to run away. They didn’t. That was their second mistake. It was also how they came to be part of the biggest threat to mousedom yet.
