Born in Bridgeton, Barbados, on 10th November 1941 into a mixed-race family, Ted Pollard was known as Ansley Cecil until December 1961, when he left Barbados for England.
As a young child, he had to put up with poor health, with both asthma and hay fever. On top of which he had a stutter so bad that a doctor even considered surgery to "untie his tongue" (luckily, his grandmother refused the offer). Together, this seemed to make him a target for teasing and bullying. So, even at a very young age, he started exercising his tongue by curling it to the roof of his mouth. He stretched it daily, also pushing his jaw forwards, that did the trick.
He and his brother were both keen on sports which led to him starting a lifelong involvement in the art of training. This included all forms of fitness training, and led to a lifelong devotion to fitness and comprehensive flexibility movements. Who in those early days would have even guessed that Ted would become involved in wrestling, Mr Universe, international stage shows and golf; a specialist all-round individual trainer, even playing the part of Bruce Lee on stage.
