This first poetry collection from talented new writer Cosmin Cucu reflects on the deeper themes of life, as many of us have been forced to do in the year of 2020, and the result is a volume of poems moving in their universality and yet still intimately personal. The reader is taken from the soaring heights of a new love affair to the depths of despair and back.

Love, passion, lust and loss are grounded in images of nature and celestial bodies, setting the ephemeral and the eternal side by side.

This painterly collection is a mediation on what it is to love, to hurt and to heal, set against evocative images of the cycle of nature: birth, flourishing life, decline and death, with the possibility of rebirth.

In the author's words, "This is about... falling in love... awareness, determination, sorrow, peace of mind. This is about... you".

Cosmin Cucu

Originally from a city in eastern Romania, Cosmin has been passionate about books since childhood, with some of his most cherished memories going all the way back to long summer days reading on the grandparents' porch.

Although his studies and professional interests led him on a different path rather than pursuing literature and writing, at some point in his late twenties he started toying with writing poems as a pastime. After a sudden burst of writing frenzy during the ever-surprising year of 2020 a poetry collection revealed itself to him, on what was to become his debut work - Birds Soaring.
