Tom Miller has spent a lifetime standing in his own way. A dreamer, procrastinator, and self-confessed "middle-distancer," he's always imagined a grand life but rarely followed through. Enter Laura - sharp, confident, and everything Tom believes he doesn't deserve. From cautious online exchanges to awkward first meetings and unexpectedly sensual bathtub battles, their love story unfolds with wit, warmth, and philosophical musings.
Avoiding a Splash is an intelligent and sharply observed romantic comedy about self-doubt, modern dating, and the delicate dance between fantasy and reality. Paul Davis brings Tom's inner world vividly to life, capturing both his insecurities and his surprising moments of grace. With dry humour and emotional honesty, this novel explores what happens when two adults with fully formed lives take the plunge into love - without quite knowing if they're ready to swim.
Wry, tender, and brimming with insight, this is a story for anyone who's ever overthought a text message, imagined the perfect meet-cute, or wondered whether love might just happen when you least expect it.
