Author John Thompson has had a long and very eventful military career stretching back to the 1960s. In his book, And the Regiment Blind with Dust and Smoke, he recalls army life in a series of anecdotes, some his own and others contributed by the many friends and colleagues he has served with or encountered over the years, including comedian Jim Davidson OBE.
From tales of hilarious training ground mishaps and boozy nights in Aldershot to poignant memories of the British army’s final days in Aden in 1967, travelling the world as a soldier and later as a security consultant, Thompson has a fascinating insight into army life. The book includes contributions from SAS soldiers present at the Iranian Embassy siege in London in 1980. This fascinating book is the author’s warm and heartfelt tribute to a life of military service around the world in the British Army.
