Stephen Mumford is a retired builder with a vivid imagination and a lifelong fascination with automatous machines. Ten years ago, he conceived a story set in an imagined Victorian London that quickly took on a life of its own. This inspiration led him to surprisingly tell all his close friends and family that he intended to write a book.
