I grew up as Natalie Marsh in St Helens, Merseyside, with my parents, Audrey and Ste, and my younger brother, Phil. My love of English and children led me to become a primary school teacher. I am married to Dave, also a primary teacher, and we have three children, Isobel, Zach and Luke. I also have a stepdaughter, Hannah. My youngest son, Luke, is autistic and non-verbal. I gave up my permanent teaching role to care for him and now work as a supply teacher, marker and tutor. Caring for Luke and learning about and living with autism has been emotional, challenging and exhausting at times but has ultimately changed my life and me personally for the better. Writing this book began as a way of expressing my own feelings about Luke's non-verbal autism, then explaining it to others and eventually telling Luke's story in a simple, child friendly way. My hope is that this book will be informative and will raise awareness and promote acceptance and kindness.
