Mark F. Johnson loves American history, particularly the period of the middle twentieth century, from the 1950s through the 1970s when there was so much social transformation in the United States. As an American of African descent, he is particularly interested in the Civil Rights struggle that found its legs and began its march forward during this time. Also, he has an interest in international affairs and has studied the period during which many countries in Africa became independent of Europe about this same time. Mark has worked extensively in American politics including his work in the United States Senate and also for a Presidential re-election campaign. Mark has worked on the staff of one major US newspaper and he has also been a freelance writer for several local papers in both Chicago and Washington, DC. Mark is a native of Washington, DC and has lived as well in Chicago where he went to graduate school and New York City
