Johannes Viljoen

The Thunder Road Rock Diner introduces us to a bunch of eccentric night wolves, among them Duke, with his bizarre hangover fantasies, Maggie the Witch, desperate to save her dignity by insisting to pay for her own drinks, Sally, with a beautiful gap between her front teeth and a deadly promiscuous lifestyle, Charlie the Viking, finally at peace with his past, and Harry, paying a security guard with a handful of bullets instead of a handful of coins, as per usual. And then there's Jonny, forever in on the action, forever running around in circles in a vain effort to get away from it all. In this collection of tales, you will hear them all and more. These characters, on the edge of existence, expressing their views in raw prose and poetry, will leave you with a curious blend of wonder, fear, self-recognition and perverse envy.
