Jimmy Smyth’s experience of how the health service works is extensive and covers a wide range of the NHS, from face-to-face work with patients and their relatives to management structures. On a few occasions, as a patient, he came close to becoming an avoidable death, as well as witnessing the death of his father from renal failure, as a result of the side effects from years of medication.
