My parents are Italian immigrants, whose families have been in Western Australia since the early 1920s. I am the third of five children, with two older sisters and two younger brothers. I spent my entire working life in WA, doing secretarial and receptionist work. I was good at sports and loved writing, but never had the opportunity to do anything about it. My parents had a farm which I grew up on. It was about ten years ago, as I never married nor had children, that I sold up everything to change the direction of my life. I wrote a travel diary, sent emails and recorded my travel exploits. I also posted photos and small paragraphs to describe the plot, on Facebook.
It was during a trip through Scotland on a wet, rainy day on a bus tour through the Highlands, where I got the inspiration for the book.
