Dennis Reed is a former member of the infamous poetry group, Bud Jones. His poetry, fiction and drama has appeared in Essence, College Language Association Journal, the Linden Avenue Literary magazine, Black Scholar, Caution! Poetic Voices and many other magazines and many other journals. Mr Reed is a National Endowment Scholar, recipient of the Eminent Scholar Award from Norfolk State University (twice); the Distinguished Teaching Award from Morehouse College and a UNCF Faculty Development Award, as well as a travel study scholarship to study at the University of Ghana. His book of poetry, Definitions, was published last spring by Opus Press. His memoir, Migration Memories, was a semi-finalist in the NCTE/Norman Mailer High School Teacher's Non-Fiction Award (2014) and is one of the best-selling memoirs in Amazon.com history. Migration Memories, this year, was a winner of the North Street Book of the Year Prize/Honorable Mention. A special honorable mention category was created for this book by Winning Writers. His screenplay Love on the Corner, won the fourth-place prize in Scriptapalooza's Screenwriting Competition (2019).
Mr Reed has a BA from Long Island University, an MA from Virginia Commonwealth University, and doctoral study at Georgia State University. He is a proud father of two girls and grandfather of two boys
