It is the dream of many people to own a property abroad, whether as a holiday retreat or a permanent home. Joan Hollingworth's entertaining new book Your Place or Mine? recounts the search for property in two countries for herself and her close friend Patrick (Pat). They both shared a desire to start new lives abroad, but not necessarily a totally shared one.

With Joan opting for a modern apartment in Cyprus, Pat found a semi-derelict farmhouse in rural France was just what he was looking for; a restoration project. Your Place or Mine? tells Joan's and Pat's stories as they pursue their property dreams and the friendships they form along the way. You will also encounter the difficulties a family faces, living thousands of miles away from loved ones, a sponsored charity walk and a little history and geology along the way.

Joan Hollingworth

Born in Yorkshire, I lived with my parents and brother until we relocated to Poole in Dorset in 1962. After leaving home at the age of eighteen, I lived in numerous locations throughout England and Wales and holidayed abroad frequently.

Education-wise, I studied at Plymouth and York universities and my working career has always been in communications. Over the past twenty years I have owned and run a small letting and property management business near Exeter.

Relaxation-wise, I love reading, gardening and dancing and whilst living in Devon was a founding member of a Morris dancing team.
