About Book

When Queen Isobel of Castile married King Ferdinand of Aragon thus uniting the two kingdoms they made a vow to rid Spain of all those who did not ascribe to the Catholic faith. With the brutal Inquisition instituted by Isobel already in full swing and people being tortured and put to death for their beliefs the newly weds launched a savage attack on the tiny kingdom of Granada ruled by the Moors for centuries.

The Amirate, under its ruler Boabdil, stood no chance and was surrendered to the overpowering superiority of the Christian army in 1492. Those of Boabdil's followers who would not alter their beliefs to that of the Catholic religion were driven into exile.

In addition to the Muslims, all Jews had their property seized and were banished from the land. For their unwavering zeal in the ethnic cleansing of their domain the Pope honoured Ferdinand and Isobel by conferring upon them the title of the Catholic Monarchs.
