This book is masterfully written by a writer with wide-ranging and excellent knowledge of the times and the milieu in which this war occurred.

The book is hugely engaging and accessible, so that even the most amateur follower of this war can easily grasp the concepts, motivations and decisions as well as their outcomes. It makes for riveting and absorbing reading and does not shy away from answering even the most difficult questions of this war.
