About Book

Nkemakolam has been arrested for the murder of his father.  Of ten children, whose mother raised them alone, he is the one in whom her dream of a lawyer in the family might come true. His obnoxious father's return does nothing to endear him to Nkem.
As the story unfolds, Nkem's course is slowly set. At university he becomes embroiled in politics, despite his lack of interest. With his only close friend, he becomes involved in drinking and drugs, despite no desire for either. He doesn't want to cheat in the exams but finds himself doing so, on request, and although he doesn't smoke igbo, when told to, he does.
When Nkem passes into a new year, outside on a bench, his mother warns him superstitiously that he has now entered the path of a criminal. He doesn't believe her, but was she right? And if not, then what really happened?
