My formative years were spent in Newcastle and Sydney; and I currently reside in Tasmania, Australia.
In the 1960s I began my career in the entertainment industry as an actor and singer, performing in productions that ranged from Shakespeare to Cole Porter.
Currently, in association with my wife, Susan; we manage our own theatrical production company and technical consultancy firm.
I have also directed and designed numerous stage productions and have just completed a full musical and dramatic stage adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, including a promotional full-length film.
It is now that I turn to writing my first novel.
Author, D.W. McEwen, is an actor and singer who has been performing in productions ranging from Shakespeare to Cole Porter since the 1960s. As well as performing, he is an experienced stage director and designer. Sing with Me Johnny is his debut novel, and a very accomplished one indeed. John McGuire is a young law student and budding entertainer who, through his talent as a singer, becomes involved with the people who run the city's nightlife. Drawn like a moth to a flame into the nightclub scene, he soon finds himself involved in the murky world of the sex trade.
This hard-hitting story find's Johnny along with his close friend, Robert, getting deeper and deeper into a world of sex, crime, and corruption. He encounters bent policemen, corrupt city officials, and double-crossing business partners in a thrilling story that ends with a murderous encounter at sea in a force ten gale.
