Parenting with Depression in the Family is a deep dive into the painful world of mental illness. In it, Peter Hase describes in great detail the issues his son, Andy, goes through; and also describes the struggles parents and family face in trying to secure professional treatment for their loved ones.
This book is a must-read for those parents who have children struggling with mental health issues and who are at their wit's end, wondering and worrying about what they can and should do to help.
How much ‘help' actually works in helping a child get and feel better, and how much does the parents' helping work in reverse and make the child too dependent on them?
Difficult enough then to have a child suffering from mental issues, but add to that the fact that in this case, the ‘child' is an adult, and the issues are increased markedly with the fact that the person with the illness can make their own choices; often to their own detriment!

Peter Hase

I am a parent of two adult boys, very different people and yet very similar. My youngest son has depression, and it was his journey over the last ten years with the illness that triggered this book. Depression in the family has affected our lives greatly, but we have still managed to remain committed to each other and be mindful of our own ambitions or goals. I now live mainly in France, trying to get time to go fishing and ride motorbikes.
