David McCormack dissects the intersection between matter and memory as he journeys back in time to explore historical events, personalities, and themes whilst also drawing on his own life experiences to produce a unique view of humanity. McCormack distils his perspective into a stream of haunting and elegiac poems, a combination of feathery hope and bitter anguish. McCormack reflects on the nature of humanity in a perceptive and entertaining way producing a realistic portrayal of human nature. David McCormack draws on his knowledge as an English lecturer, director, and actor to instil his anthology with an assortment of subtle references to well-known literary and dramatical figures, from Shakespeare to Laurence Olivier making ‘Matter and Memory' an insightful reflection of the development of the literary world.
