Heather Meacock

I have a first degree in History and Theology and a PhD in Comparative Religion. I first became aware of Olympe de Gouges when I was studying for my first degree; I was amazed by the radically feminist views expressed by this humbly born woman in eighteenth century France. I wanted to give a ‘voice' to this little known woman who clearly possessed great beauty, intelligence and independence of mind. The writing of Olympe de Gouges was revolutionary but her personal life is little known. The ‘gaps' in the historical knowledge gave rise to the possibilities for the creation of a novel.
