This is a children's story called Dickens and the Cat Who Lived Under the Bed. It is about two feral cats, Dickens and Hunter. Cats, like all animals, are intelligent, form bonds, and communicate with us when we pay attention and learn their 'language'. Bringing feral cats into a house is quite an experience for all. It is an exercise in patience and trust to build the relationships needed to move forward. My interaction and experience with them have been both pleasant and enriching. I hope this story reminds us that all living things deserve to be cared for and treated with kindness. The story touches on themes of patience, trust, loss, friendship, and love. It shows it is worthwhile to engage and that we can have a positive influence on the quality of life in the world. Important messages for us all. It tells us that kindness counts!

My name is Sylvia Flemming and I have written my
first children's book. I am originally from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. I have always liked animals, all animals! Growing up we usually had a cat in the house, and I have continued that tradition. We now have two felines living with us, Dickens and Hunter. In university, I studied biology which I found fascinating. My professional background is in public health and food science. In addition to writing, I enjoy singing jazz and spending time with horses. I currently live in Ottawa Canada with my husband.
