Jean Haycock

Jean Haycock was born in a small mining town in Yorkshire, the only child of her Yorkshire mother and Australian father.

As Jean's school years were during the war, education was limited. Leaving age was then fourteen years and upon leaving she worked in fashion.

Jean left Yorkshire aged eighteen with her parents to live in the Midlands where she spent all her working life. She had a short marriage and no children.

Jean started a business aged forty-six, after two bereavements, and retired at the age of sixty-three, moving to Bournemouth.

At last, Jean could find the time to write. Although she has no family in the world, she is completely happy living alone except for her little dog, Bertie. She is blessed.

About Book

In Around Every Corner: A Poetry Collection, author and retired businesswoman Jean Haycock has produced a heart-warming collection of around sixty poems.

Among a diversity of themes there are several which recur: love, of course, in all its manifestations and guises; wonderment and delight in so much beauty and variety in the natural world; admiration and respect for 'the salt of the earth' who work with dedication, diligence and humour - in physically hard and somewhat thankless jobs, in the service sector so often poorly paid, and those involved in social care, whether volunteers or professionals. There are pleas for racial understanding, compassion and tolerance, and finally, amidst some nostalgia and regrets for the past, pleasure in the good times and hopes for the future.

Charm and freshness abound, and there is delightful leavening in some individual quirky pieces.
