The author would have appreciated a book such as this in his early days of bird watching, over 80 years ago, books on the subject then were few and far between. Brian hopes to inspire the reader in the study of birds that starts a lifelong relationship with one of nature's most beautiful creations. Birds are one of the few wild creatures which can be seen and enjoyed everywhere, from your own gardens to the wildest of places, and they can be encouraged to visit you. Here we look at about 100 of the commonest birds to be seen and heard in the UK, with the occasional look at more exotic species which have slowly commenced to colonise us. So come and join Brian on a wildlife adventure that may last you all your life. From now on feeding ducks down the park will never be the same

Brian C. George

He was introduced to birds at the tender age of five, when taken to his local park in Birmingham to feed the ducks. His first real involvement was egg collecting, but he quickly became more interested in watching and studying birds. Over the next eighty years, he has studied birds in most European countries, plus Egypt. He has written many features for various publications; jointly presented a countryside radio programme for BBC Radio Birmingham; was a tutor for both Birmingham and Keele universities teaching bird study, and has taken parties of birders on study tours in the UK and Europe. The author, now in his eighty-nineth year, is still learning and enjoying his study of birds.
