He is a retired NHS GP; he was trained at St John's College, Cambridge, St Bartholomew's Hospital, London and completed house jobs at the Metropolitan Hospital E1., Kingston-upon-Thames Hospital and the Mayday Hospital, Croydon, before being a Resident in Newark City Hospital and New Jersey College of Medicine, USA. He joined a practice in Aldershot, was a medical officer at Farnborough where he enjoyed a flight in a Hawk jet. He developed an interest in Transactional Analysis and was a trainer and senior partner before retiring in 1997. He wrote his first book Tales from a Winchester Hill, in 2020.
