A tale of deepening mystery surrounding the discovery of ancient manuscripts providing contentious disclosures on the origins of Christianity and of efforts from within the Roman Catholic Church to come to terms with their revolutionary implications.

Stephen Hallam, a mathematician at a University of London college, is thunderstruck on reading of the discovery of the body of Piers Denney, found prostrated before the altar of a side chapel in Westminster Cathedral. His first memory of Piers was as a member of the religious teaching order at the school he attended. Now, some thirty years later, he becomes drawn into the circumstances culminating in that mysterious death: of Piers' involvement with Vatican affairs, first as expert authority on biblical history, later in advocacy of fundamental reform, and finally in embroilment with Mafia infiltration of Vatican financial institutions and the raft of lethal criminality this had given rise to.

"...drawing on ground-breaking research into biblical history concerning James, the brother of Jesus, and Paul, the effective founder of the Christian religion."
