This book is a comprehensive guide and history of the bridges along the River Thames from its source in Gloucestershire to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge at Dartford.
The first bridge in London was built by the Romans and this guide identifies the oldest bridges (the first still in use dating back to the fourteenth century) to the most recent (at the time of writing) opened in 2013, as well as those that have been rebuilt to replace older ones on the same sites.
Details are given of every bridge and their different forms of construction. Some bridges are beautiful or glamorous, such as Tower Bridge, but at the other end of the scale is such as Cricklade Sewage Works Bridge.
The guide includes fascinating facts and snippets of information about momentous events along the river throughout history, and the photographic journey also includes beautiful original watercolour illustrations.
