Twenty-eight year old Noah Green is a rocker with sound integrity and a healthy ambition to succeed in the music world. In search of some inspiration, Noah embarks on a personal pilgrimage to the eminent Skyway Resort, a place that has characterised the journeys of so many of his own heroes - without knowing he is about to be taken on an excursion into his own soul.

We spoke with Michael about his book’s complex narrative structure, using real-world experiences to help craft his characters, and how this title is just the start of a brand new series.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have shared with us previously that you had the opportunity to take part in a writing course with a small group of fellow writers - something that you thoroughly enjoyed. What lessons did you learn from this course that helped you in writing this novel?

I love a vivid setting. When I read something, as much as I like to imagine what it looks like I always love when an author paints a setting in detail. This is something I feel drawn to as I create. My instructor Opened up doors within me, which led to my passion for writing.

Bright Green is a thriller that twists through reality and dream scenarios. How did you approach crafting this complex narrative structure?

My working title for Bright Green was “Doorways”. I wanted to tell the story of a dreamer and use the familiar comforts of a luxury hotel to set the perfect stage for the serenity my character would experience visiting places in his own mind. This story is intended to both entertain and comfort the reader. My hope is for it to be as enjoyable to read as it was to create. So many of my favorite things are present within its pages. I’m grateful for all who have taken the journey to the Skyway with Noah.

Set in the eminent Skyway Resort, Noah Green’s search for inspiration may mirror your real-life excursions whilst away skiing or snowboarding. What experiences of your own did you share with Noah?

Too many to count. Around every corner throughout this book, there is a nod at something I love. The music, the art, the girl, the decor. My setting is based on a place that exists, and my character is based on who I think would be a great guy to know.

As a tattoo artist, you are constantly creating art, as well as working with your client to bring their story or passions to life. Have you always been creative?

I’ve always enjoyed making something out of nothing. As life went on, I would become more innovative to try to reach my goals. Tattooing is a great way to exercise your creativity. Writing is a personal experience that I favor as I get the opportunity to be completely free to sink my teeth into every urge. There are no boundaries with writing.

Finally, you’ve described writing Bright Green as lighting the fuse for a series of stories. What can you tell us about the future works of Michael Ruocco and why should we be excited about where you’re heading next?

Bright Green is the first of three stories. Collectively painting the details of Noah Green’s life and career. The Skyway may have been his takeoff point, but the world will soon become more colorful because of his influence.

In addition, I’m always creating short stories outside of that and I have something completely different in the works which I’m really excited to one day share with the world.
