Here at Olympia we love hearing from our authors, getting an insight into their lives in writing and asking them what their advice would be to future authors. This week we had the pleasure of interviewing Nicki Todd about her new book!

What has been your highlight of publishing so far?

The highlight of publishing has to be the first time I picked up my paperback book, seeing my name, containing my story. There is nothing quite like it.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

I tend to research what I need as the story develops. I am constantly thinking about the story; driving, shopping, brushing my teeth. Ideas pop in my head and I think "what if this happened?"

Do you hide any secrets in your books that only a few people will find?

My published work so far is definitely adult only. Crikey, I wouldn't want my kids to read what I have written!!I have however been working on various children's stories, ages 5-8.

I cannot say.....put it this way...even I blushed!!!

There are no secrets. I bare all!!

In this book it's definitely been capturing the mind of a 14 year old. It's been a while since I was that age!! Thankfully I kept a diary which helped with some of the linguistics. It's a shame a lot in my diaries is written in code though - I was clearly suspicious my folks might read it!

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Just do it. Write it down. To say "I want to, I'm going to.." that's a dreamer. Just write whatever comes into your head and see where it goes. It doesn't need to be mapped out. Just start it. What's the worst that can happen?

If you could review Olympia publishers in a few words, what would they be?

Olympia have supported me throughout the process. They are approachable, helpful and I genuinely feel they want me to succeed. Thanks Olympia.
