We recently released the wonderful Dreamscape by Matthew Drake. Earlier this month, we thought it would be a good idea to chat to Matthew now he’s a published author, and get a little insight into the world of writing!
What genre is your book? And what drew you to that genre?
It is a Young Adult Fantasy. I have always enjoyed fantasy and science fiction. I love both as they fit beautifully with my daydreaming nature.
What are your ambitions for your writing career?
My goal is to be a New York Times best seller multiple times.
Were you good at English when you were at school?
I was always adept at creative writing from an early age. However, I was often day dreaming during school hours so my grades were not as good as they could have been.
Do you ever have to do a lot of research before writing?
The beauty of Fantasy is that you can make most of it up. There was some research involved for this work.
What made you sit down and put pen to paper?
I always wanted to write a novel, but never started until I lost a well paying job to health issues. With more time I started writing as a hobby and it took off from there. Now I can’t think of doing anything else.
Do you have a writing schedule?
I always aim to write at least 50 words a day. Some days that is all the time I have, but it always keeps the creative juices flowing.
How do you think you’ve evolved creatively?
I feel that I am better at expressing my ideas now.
Do you ever get writer’s block, if so, do you have any tips?
I have about 15 projects on the go so if I get stuck I switch to another project. It usually works.
What book/s are you reading at present?
Just finishing the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series and starting Lord of the Rings again.
If you could review Olympia publishers in a few words, what would they be?
Helpful, friendly!
